UKTV Style & UKTV Gardens

Providing cover for the interactive producer, I worked across both channels, following a busy weekly publishing schedule. I wrote, edited and commissioned editorial to support new and existing programming, as well as standalone features around the subjects of interior design, property, gardens, health, fashion and beauty. I also fulfilled a commercial role, writing advertorials, competition copy and email newsletters.

Most Haunted Live
By June 2005, this three-day, live broadcast had already achieved cult status with viewers following the progress of a psychic medium and camera crew as they investigated some of the country’s most haunted locations.

In addition to overseeing the technical development of the website, red-button competitions and text services, my job was to write the copy across all platforms, building excitement leading up to the event itself with information about the locations and mail shots and competitions to generate a buzz.

During the show itself, the role of the website was to harness viewer feedback which was then fed back into the narrative of the show. On location, I co-ordinated a ten-person team to sift through the thousands of messages received, picking out the trends and the most dramatic, humorous or interesting responses for broadcast via an on-screen text crawl. I also wrote and approved scripts for the presenters based on this feedback.

Joining the company just six months after launch when the site was still very much evolving, my challenge as site editor was to review, update and re-organise the already huge volume of features into a coherent structure. This also involved writing and commissioning additional content to bring in any topics not already covered and support an aggressive marketing campaign and e-commerce strategy.
